Professor Ege Yazgan has served as the rector of Istanbul Bilgi University since 2022. He graduated from the Faculty of Economics at Istanbul University in 1991 and later pursued his master’s studies in Economics at Boğaziçi University and Istanbul University, where he began his career as a research assistant. After completing his master’s degree, he continued his doctoral studies in the UK. He spent a year at the University of Cambridge as a visiting PhD student and earned his PhD from the University of Sussex in 2000, where he also worked as an instructor.
Since 2001, Professor Yazgan has been affiliated with Istanbul Bilgi University, taking on various academic and administrative roles. He served as rector from January 2017 to March 2019, directed the Center for Financial Studies from 2019 to 2024, and held the position of Vice Rector responsible for the graduate school and online learning from 2015 to 2016. Additionally, he was the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences from 2010 to 2014.
His professional experience includes a tenure as a visiting researcher at the University of Cambridge, UK, from 2008 to 2009, and as the director of the Center for Turkish Studies at Kadir Has University in Istanbul from 2014 to 2015. Professor Yazgan has initiated and contributed to various academic events held in Turkey (http://www.egeyazgan.com/activities/) and has published several articles in international academic journals (http://www.egeyazgan.com/research/).
He regularly provides commentary on macroeconomic issues for Turkish TV channels and economic publications. Furthermore, he is the founder of the Turkish GDP nowcasting website simditahmin.com.
